D.L. Bliss State Park Reopening 2026 | Lake Tahoe: What Visitors Should Know

Views from D.L. Bliss State Park

If you’ve been wondering when D.L. Bliss State Park will reopen, there’s finally good news for Lake Tahoe visitors and locals alike.

According to California State Parks, D.L. Bliss State Park on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore will fully reopen on May 21, 2026, just in time for the summer season.

The park has been closed since 2023 while crews completed a major infrastructure project to replace the aging water system that serves the park.

For many who love Tahoe, the reopening of D.L. Bliss means the return of one of the most beautiful beaches, hiking trails, and scenic viewpoints in the entire basin.

Why D.L. Bliss State Park Was Closed

D.L. Bliss State Park closed in 2023 so California State Parks could complete a large-scale water infrastructure improvement project.

The original system dated back to the 1930s and 1940s and needed replacement to improve reliability and safety.

The project included upgrades to nearly three miles of waterlines, installation of a new water main, additional fire hydrants, and improvements to roads throughout the park.

These updates will significantly improve fire protection, water capacity, and overall park operations for years to come.

What to Expect When D.L. Bliss Reopens

When the park reopens, visitors will once again be able to experience everything that makes D.L. Bliss one of Tahoe’s most loved destinations.

Lester Beach, often considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Lake Tahoe, offers sandy shoreline and crystal-clear water with incredible views across the lake.

The Rubicon Trail, one of Tahoe’s most iconic hikes, connects D.L. Bliss to Emerald Bay and runs along the shoreline with stunning scenery the entire way.

The Balancing Rock Trail provides a short and unique hike to a remarkable granite formation.

Throughout the park, scenic overlooks offer sweeping views of Tahoe’s deep blue water, while the campground provides a peaceful forest setting surrounded by towering pines.

Current Access, Camping and Visiting

While the park is still officially closed, there is currently limited access for those looking to enjoy the area.

Visitors can park near the visitor center and walk into the park to access trails and Lester Beach.

It’s important to note that there are no restroom facilities open at this time, and the campground remains closed until the full reopening.

Camping reservations for the 2026 season opened this past November and are available through ReserveCalifornia.com.

Due to the park’s popularity, summer reservations tend to fill quickly, especially for weekends. Once reopened, day-use access will be available from sunrise to sunset, with a standard vehicle entrance fee.

A West Shore Favorite

As someone who lives on the West Shore, D.L. Bliss has always been one of my favorite places to spend time outdoors.

The combination of forest, granite, and lake views makes every visit feel special, whether it’s a hike along the Rubicon Trail or a quiet afternoon by the water.

Places like D.L. Bliss are part of what makes the West Shore such a unique and special place to live.
